It's been a little while...

Sorry I haven't been on lately. It seems like everything has been catching up with me all at once. Semester projects, papers, exams, etc.

Anyway, I don't know if you heard. There was an election a week ago. Senator Obama won handedly handily (thanks!). I'm looking into doing some analysis of why, and the impact of his election, as well as the local elections, so look for that soon.

Otherwise, hang in there.

Socialist = Racist

Really? This is really what the left has come up with?

The "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.

J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality.

Those freedom fighters included the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led the Civil Rights Movement; W.E.B. Du Bois, who in 1909 helped found the NAACP which is still the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization; Paul Robeson, a famous singer, actor and political activist who in the 1930s became involved in national and international movements for better labor relations, peace and racial justice; and A. Philip Randolph, who founded and was the longtime head of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and a leading advocate for civil rights for African Americans.

McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare.

Shame on McCain and Palin.

Are you serious right now? Honestly, this is pitiful. In now way is the term "socialist" a synonym for black. I have literally never heard of that in my entire life. What are they going to come up with next, Palin is a racist for wearing white clothes? Oh wait, they already did.

And just for your viewing pleasure:

Comprehensive argument against Obama

I've been a little busy so I haven't been writing much recently. But I do have the time to still do some good reading. Check it out.

Cut, tax, or borrow

Excellent article by Owen Robinson from boots and sabers.

This is no small matter. The Democrats in control of the Senate and the projected leaders for the Assembly are much more liberal than even Gov. Doyle. Regardless of what the economy is doing, they can be expected to go for broke – for broke Wisconsinites, that is. It may come to pass that we conservatives may have to be cheerleaders for Gov. Doyle to stop the madness.

Powell supports Obama

Well, it looks like the Messiah has converted another one.

WASHINGTON - Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for president on Sunday, criticizing his own Republican Party for what he called its narrow focus on irrelevant personal attacks over a serious approach to challenges he called unprecedented.

Powell, who for many years was considered the most likely candidate to become the first African-American president, said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he was not supporting Obama because of his race. He said he had watched both Obama and his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, for many months and thought “either one of them would be a good president.”

But he said McCain’s choices in the last few weeks — especially his selection of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his vice presidential running mate — had raised questions in his mind about McCain’s judgment.

“I don’t believe [Palin] is ready to be president of the United States,” Powell said flatly. By contrast, Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, “is ready to be president on day one.”

Powell also said he was “troubled” by Republican personal attacks on Obama, especially false intimations that Obama was Muslim and Republicans’ recent focus on Obama’s alleged connections to William Ayers, the founder of the radical ’60 Weather Underground.

Stressing that Obama was a lifelong Christian, Powell denounced Republican tactics that he said were insulting not only to to Obama but also to Muslims.

“The really right answer is what if he is?” Powell said, praising the contributions of millions of Muslim citizens to American society.

“I look at these kind of approaches to the campaign, and they trouble me,” Powell said. “Over the last seven weeks, the approach of the Republican Party has become narrower and narrower.”

Thoughts on the final presidential debate?

I didn't get a chance to watch the entire thing, but I caught snippets. As soon as it all goes online, I will try to watch it in entirety. Does anyone out there have any thoughts? Vote in the poll to the right ---->
